Warming up to Table Tennis

The European champion ship winner Michael Maze, has already now qualified for the upcoming Olympic. Maze qualified with his impressed result on the world rank list, the 1st of November 2011, he was number 21 in the world. Even though Maze has been out for almost a year from his knee injury, he is coming back with impressive results.

Maze is right now living in Russia where he plays for UMMC in the Russian league. In this fall they are playing at the Champions League. Michael is still not playing with 100% power after his many injuries he seems to take it slower now. For me Maze is amazing to watch, we have not have that many great table tennis players in Denmark, so he is definitely something to watch.

Maze and former double partner Finn Tugwell won a bronze medal at the Games in Athena in 2004, the only Olympics medal Denmark has ever won in table tennis. Maze should have enough time to get his knee completely ready for next year. I am not sure if we will see Michael winning gold  next year, but we are allowed to dream about it..!

Another Danish talent is the female table tennis player Mie Skov. She is pr 1st of November number 111th on the world ranking list. Mie has never attended an Olympic before, so hopefully 2012 will be the first. She will not be able to qualify before May 2012. But we can only hope and believe to see her in London.
I went to see table tennis in Beijing, it was a really great experience. It was such a fast sport to look at. It was really amazing to see these small Asian people, standing 8-10 meters away from the edge of the table and still smashing the little ball so hard.
