Lasse Svan moved to Germany in 2008 to play in the German handball league; handball-bundesliga. Svan decided to play in the German league because of the high level and that it is probably the best handball league in the world.

Svan says about the difference between the Danish and the German league: “ I don´t know how big the difference is between the leagues, but there is one. I think the primary difference is that all the games here are extremely important, so there is a pressure on you every game. In Denmark they have got the final rounds with only the top teams, and so they do not have as much pressure as us.”

Svan´s contract in Flensburg runs out in 2015, about living in Flensburg he says: “It it really great living here. Also because we are so close to the border to Denmark, so I can still just take my car and drive home to my family and friends. And it is also cheaper.”

The upcoming Olympics in London 2012 will be Svan´s first Games ever. “My expectations right now are that I am just hoping to attend in London. I am looking forward to the games very much, but there are still some obstacles we have to deal with first.”

Denmark´s national team is playing the European Cup in January 2012 in Serbia, which is very important to the Games in London. Svan believes that they can qualify directly to London.

“I hope that we can win the gold medal at the European Cup, after winning silver at the last world cup in 2011 in Sweden it would be great to take the last step to the gold.”

Svan thinks that France are favourites again after winning the last two world cups. “They have the same team as in Sweden, and this time they´ve even got Daniel Narcisse. But at the same time I think we have shown than we will not give up without a fight.

“Our biggest star is without doubt Mikkel Hansen.”

Let´s hope that Svan, Hansen and all our other handball stars will do well and we will win in January which will give us automatic qualification to London 2012.
